The Catholic Medical Association is disturbed and disappointed that the Supreme Court saw fit to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). This decision is both alarming and deeply wrong.
With an “abortion premium” built into many health insurance plans, Obamacare makes every taxpayer an accessory to elective abortion. With the mandate from HHS forcing all health insurance plans to subsidize abortion-causing pills, contraceptives, and sterilization for women, Obamacare holds our health insurance hostage—either comply and abandon our religious beliefs, or resist and be fined for our faith.
Even apart from attacks on human life and religious freedom, Obamacare puts too much power in the hands of the federal government. Obamacare will increase costs and decrease quality in health care.
Rather than following the extreme and unconstitutional path of Obamacare, we need a measured and responsible approach to health-care reform. The Catholic Medical Association will work to achieve authentic health-care reform in 2013 and beyond.
Founded in 1932, the Catholic Medical Association is the largest association of Catholic physicians in North America. For more information, go to http://www.cathmed.org.
